Dear Sailor,
I couldn't manage to design a new bag. I just couldn't find it.
In the workshop, I saw a white sailor's smock and its removable blue collar with white stripes.
Thanks to this flat, square-backed collar, you can recognize sailors from a hundred meters away.
I unbuttoned the collar from its garment,
I started taking it apart to clear my head,
Without thinking about making a bag.
Just for the pleasure of seeing how it was constructed and sewn,
And to take a break between two drawings that weren't going anywhere.
Then I opened the part that hugs the neck, which naturally created a small handle and an opening:
I inserted objects into it to see how a flat volume fills up and comes to life.
Then I connected the two large ends of the collar to make a strap.
The bag was made in five minutes.
At first, I didn't know if this bag was really a bag,
But I found the volume and the use interesting—at the very least, something not yet seen.
After a few doubts, I chose to release it and create two sizes for it.
In the end, I like the idea of carrying a fragment of a sailor's garment with you every day without it actually looking like one.
This bag that wasn't designed is called the Marinero, which means sailor in Spanish.
It is carried by women and men without distinction.
It is currently one of the most requested Bombelli bags.
